i just got a call from my local bike repairperson who is tuning up a BikeE that I just bought. He says it needs a Sram Dual drive hub. does anyone have one or know where I can get one, preferably used?
or, would I be better off with a new one that would improve the ride considerably?
thanks for any info,
jeff

My question is why you need a new hub and how much is he quoting you?
If you are a flat lander you can get by just with the gears on the derailleur.
There are rebuild kit available for mist of the original ones, a new hub is going to require rebuilding the wheel.

Hmm, you might be right about whether or not it's the hub. I'll ask again. I'm definitely not a flatlander though. Can you tell me where I might find someone selling a rebuild kit?

I assume you rode the bike so was there something wrong with it? The SRAM gears should not give trouble. I have a 2001 CT with the old 3 x 7 and it runs just fine. Is the bike shop trying to make some money out of you?

I rode the bike up and down the road a few times before I bought it. It was flat. I shifted a few of the gears. It was ok. Then, after I bought I took it on our "rail trail", not to rough combination of gravel and dirt, and it got a flat within fifteen minutes. When I took it to my bike shop, they took off the tires and found the tube had been patched nine times! Needless to say I had the tires replaced. While doing that, I asked them to check out the rest of the bike, and they turned up a problem with the gearing. It turns out to be a $20 part, which is in the mail as I write this. It was hard to locate, and I'm anxious already to get back behind the wheel.
Sadly, the fellow who sold it to me is a member of the local school board. I guess he's not the first public official to demonstrate he's not worthy of someone's trust. Too bad I had to find out the hard way.

That is really good that the part has been sourced. Will that sort the gears? Some people would only mention major items that need attention when selling and, perhaps, a patched inner tube was not considered significant. I do hope you are on the road soon. Please tell us how you are getting on with it.
