Can someone explain what’s this I’m reading about "steerer tubes beginning to separate" issue on my E2 Tandem? Is there something I should be looking at and is this repairable? Thanks

The E2 steerer is no different to the regular BikeE. It has an Aheadset over which the steerer tube slides. I'm not absolutely sure about what caused the recall but my interpretation is that you must make certain that the steerer tube is firmly attached to the spud that holds the Aheadset. I found out that it is a very tight fit after I had to take it off to tighten the Aheadset on my CT. I eventually managed to get it refitted.
I hope that is of some help to you.
Regards, Robin.

I was told that the steerer tube would separate from the forks. When they were still in production it was a dealer fix, they would replace the forks. I don't worry much about it, I do check where my forks join to the steer tube from time to time.

We just purchased an E2 and while talking with our LBS about adding Independent Pedaling, they asked if our was part of the recall. They showed the link to CPSC recall page, which indicates bikes were recalled and says they were 2000 & 2001 bikes. It also shows you how to locate and read the serial number; however, it does tell which serial numbers are affected by the recall. Does anyone know how to interpete the serial numbers or which serial numbers are in the recall list.
