I found a great deal on this BikeE bike. For $175 I couldn't pass it up. I brought it home and found the bottom shock mount broke at some point. The previous owner fixed it with wire ties and what appears to be JB Weld. I am assuming that this bottom piece is not aluminum since it has a little rust on it. Has anyone had experience with repairing this? I have a friend that welds and I could have him fix it. Any thoughts? Is this common? Also, the shock seems to have a slow leak. Can it be rebuilt?

That is some bargain! The seals on the shock are replaceable. Try Mike Librik of Easy Street Recumbents www.easystreetrecumbents.com/index.htmlI won't comment on the weld but it should be able to be welded. Just be sure about the metals. The shell may need reinforcing. Check around the pivots for star cracking as well.

The shock mount was made from chrome-moly and welded to the suspension all with Silicone-bronze weld wire.

When I bought my AT the shock was also shot. It had some pretty deep scores in the cylinder and I was sure that a rebuild kit wouldn't work, but it did! I paid $10 for it. I can't remember the last time I had to add air in it, maybe 6 months ago?

How did you repair the shock mount? My FX has the same problem with cracked bracket arms and cross member. I thought about grinding off the old arms, welding a new piece of flat stock on top of the cross member and attaching new arms to it. Any other ideas? Thanks.
