Hi!
Yesterday, i just had my Bike E tires replaced for the first time.
At the shop, they gave me the choice between a 20" Kenda Kwest 1.5 or a much expensive and KHE Mac 1.5. I finally picked up the KHE because it looked strurdier and thicker. I found out today that these KHE high pressure tires are made for BMX bikes. I noticed too that this tire is making noise, something I never noticed with the original tires that were on my AT. They installed a 16" Kenda Kwest for the front, which seems way quieter.
Should I keep the KHE tire. Is it reliable and durable enough for a Bike E. I have done many trips in the past, and I am looking forward to make a 500 miles trip this summer.
Thanks for your advice.

I’ve been commuted for three years with Kenda Kwest 1.5 100psi tires. They are not bad for a cheap tire. I got about 7,000 miles on the first set. But if I was going on a tour I’d have a set of Schwalbe Marathons or Marathon Plus ( have a much better puncture protection ) if you don’t the mind the added weight. www.schwalbetires.com/bike_tires/recumbentCiao, O^o

I would agree with Timothy. Schwalbe tyres are the best you could use on a BikeE.

Robin.

Hi !
Thanks for your advice.
I just came back from a 1000 miles (1600 km) trip, and my KHE tire just died on me after 400 miles. The thread of the tire was totally teared on 4-5 inches. It was my first flat with my BikeE in 7 years... I was lucky to find a good bicycle shop where I was, and they replaced it with a Maxxis Hookworm. Not bad so far.

I should add I just installed a set of Primo Comets (I got them real cheap from a LBS that was closing.) on a very new acquired Bike E AT and I very much like the sporty handling this tire has. ;D It’s not a touring tire, nor would I use it as such. It’ll just be hauling me around town.
Ciao, O^o

Hi could someone help me please!
My BikeE tyres need replacing (esp the front) need replacing and I can't read the writing to get the size as they are badly worn. I've already been given the wrong front tyre (schwalbe marathon plus 16x1.35) by a local recumbent shop.
I am right in saying all BikeE models use a 16", 305mm front wheel and a 20", 406mm rear wheel?
If that is the case is it possible to get 305mm tyres (yes I am in the UK) by schwalbe?
Thanks! Colin

Perhaps you should bring the wheel to your LBS, as we own three BikeE's and they use a differant width front tire - all 16" The AT uses a Primo 16 X 1.50 low pressure 45-65 psi, the E2 a Maxxis Hookworm 16 X 1.95 high pressure 100 psi [the tire code is 53-305, we like the way they ride] and the NX is a 16 X 1.125 [1/8"] high pressure 100 psi

Hello Colin, It would help in tire recommendation if you would say what Bike E you have CT, AT, FX, RX, NX or a E2 tandem. And also tell us how you are going to use you bike, like are you touring, commuting or sport riding. Do you ride only on paved roads/paths or do you ride on some gravel as-well? Where I ride requires a few miles on sidewalks, the uneven kind. I also have to run off the paved shoulder in a few tight spots. I've got a 01 CT so I wanted to add some cushion. I've got a couple tires I'm looking at, but in the meantime, as an experiment, I put a 2.35 width tire on the rear, 55psi. It barely fits with the shift cable rerouted. I plan on riding it around town to see how it feels. It it seems ok for rolling resistance or if I can live with it, I'll stick with it or put a 1.95 on there. I think that will help my spokes also.

Call me cheap, but I tried a pair of Michelin Diablos at 10 bucks a piece and they are great for commuting. Knobby, but rides smooth because of the way the center treads are situated. Both tires are 1.75.
