I bought the bike from my brother several years ago and love riding it along the strand. he made me promise i'd check the seat welds. i think i can see a hairline crack running from the weld toward the front. Has anyone else see the same? what do you typically do to fix it? thanks in advance.

The seat can be welded. It is chrome molybdenum and it requires a stainless steel welding rod. A good welding shop would be capable of the work. The frame has to be stripped bare to facilitate the welding. Both struts should be welded. the small tudes are hollow and the ends have to squeezed together in order to present a larger welding surface than before. The weld can then be painted with galvafroid paint to stop it rusting.
Regards, Robin.

Read Robins comments - We have a NX 5.0 which suffered some rubbing damage when we had it on our car rack - both the front and rear forks had the "paint" removed to the point they're rusting - would this galvafroid paint be the same for the forks or is there something else I should use ??

I would only use it on a new weld to stop it rusting. Do you have a colour to match? I would use Hammerite to neutralise rust on a steel surface. Perhaps a grey colour colour could be used as an underlayer for the top coat.
