Can anyone tell me if the steering can be tightened (dampened) 0n a bikeE ? I have looked and there does not seem to be anything to tighten the head like on most bikes

Hi xring1, Again I have no experience - but I send you what I have in my small archive for your information. It may help you decide what you plan to do. I cannot tell you that this is the Aheadset that's fitted to a BikeE - but the illustrations looks similar to my 2002CT. If this manual IS for a BikeE headset, it may be that you have to remove the handlebar stem (to get at the steering tube and hopefully see the compression bolt hex socket), and carefully adjust the "pre-load force" (see manual page 2 Step 5). There's a torque figure given. Alas I've never done it, I can't tell you this is the way to go, sorry. Since this is a part that directly affects safety you might think to get the advice of your local bike shop? (Hummm - have to send this in 2 parts to keep small attachment sizes) Manual page 2 follows ... Attachments:

Thanks to all for the information. As I suspected it is a matter of tightening the compression bolt. I will disassemble and grease then torque it to specs then see if a little more torque will dampen the steering sufficiently. It sure would make for more relaxed riding if the steering can be dampened a bit.

Will someone update & elaborate? I agree that the steering needs to be dampened & would like to know how to do so.

I don't know of any bike with dampened steering. To adjust the headset on a Bike-E you must remove the handlebar riser, then it adjusts like any other threadless headset.
