Hi,
What's the best rear derailleur to use on a Bike E?
My bike is a CT model that came with a Sachs 6000 derailleur and 3X7 hub. I didn't care for the derailleur but the hub is great.
I switched the cassette from the 11-28 that came with it to an 11-34. That 34 tooth cog is a must! I also switched the 46 tooth chainring to a 38 tooth as there are a lot of hills where I ride.
So I got rid of the Sachs derailleur and put a Shimano RSX long cage on it, but it wouldn't work with that 34 tooth cog. So now I'm trying a Shimano C-201 Megarange 8-speed derailleur which works fine with the 34 tooth cog, but seems to be overkill, as it is designed to be able to wrap the chain slack from a wide range front derailleur. Of course, my Bike E does not have any front derailleur.
Basically a road derailleur would be better since they are designed to wrap only a little chain slack from narrow range (40/52 tooth chainrings) front derailleur. But few road bikes use a 34 tooth cog. And the derailleurs for the Megarange 11-34 cassettes all have these super long cages that almost touch the ground with the 20" rear wheel on the Bike E.
So what's the best derailleur for a Bike E with the 11-34 cassette?
Thanks!
Bruce
