Has anyone tried painting over the standard bike E paint with clear spray paint?

it probably wouldn't work too well and would chip. any time you paint a surface, you want to give it "tooth" for the paint to bite into. that's why you're supposed to sand anything you paint first and then prime it.
i don't know which model bike E you have, but i think i have later one that has a goofy pitted texture that paint wouldn't like sticking to i bet without sanding. i was hoping someone here had experience sanding & painting aluminum.
if you DID do it, i'd suggest at least getting a high quality paint like rust oleum. the paint held up great on an MTB i sanded and painted last year despite a crash and a few tip overs.
that's the most help i can offer.

I know this is an old post, but I am pretty new to this website. I powder coated my bike E. It will leave a nice durable scratch free finish. Look on youtube for bike E rebuild.
