i've WANTED a bike E since i first rode one in syracuse NY, of all places, at the fairgrounds during a concert event. the blue AT i loved (liked the green of the street version even better) was more interesting than the concert.
i ended up getting an original cobalt blue sun EZ-1 with the ladder style frame first as i was never able to buy a used bike E. i test rode one i liked last year, but it was sold by the time i saved up for it. i used that bike to start my bent training. i was going to buy another one for a spare/grocery getter, but an AT under $400 that wasn't fugly red finally showed up a few weeks ago for just $300.
i think it's a later low end model. it had a chrome logo on the side instead of the white reflector logo and the cutout on the tail is straight instead of curved. that might explain why the frame pings like an aluminum can denting. i don't care... i love the bike anyways. now my bike E is my spare even if it was in NM condition when i bought it. it's heavier, not as nimble or stable, and just isn't as sexy as the bike E though it's cool too.
one other bit of info i wanted to share was that i actually met one of the creators in corvallis oregon a couple years ago. he was riding a red 2nd generation CT (with the welded swingarms vs the original bolted ones) that weighed 22 pounds. he'd tricked it out with aftermarket parts including a SICK bamboo front hub. it was kind of cool meeting one of the creators of what i think, and maybe some of you too think, is the coolest looking bike ever made.
i love my AT, frame ping and loose wheels and all. my EZ1 saddle is more comfy too, but everything else about the AT looks like it was sent back from the future. i still love that hollow swingarm axle.
i wish they were still made. in another 10 years, they might start to become collectors' items. i'm just happy i finally got the chance to own one. it's the coolest bike i've ever owned, and i've owned a bunch and a few nice customs.
