Hi! Great message board! I’m looking for a chain guard for my BikeE AT. Anyone have any ideas about where I can get one? Or maybe how I can improvise a reasonable facsimile? My pants and leg get pretty dirty without it. I use the bike to commute to work and I need to arrive presentably clean. I use velcro fasteners on my slacks, but they still pick up chain grease. Any help will be appreciated.

John, I have one that I took off of my CT. I'll send it to you for $5 plus $3 for shipping if you want it. You could also try some irrigation pipe or something similar.

John Have you ever thought of using chain wax instead of a wet chain lube?

I've tried the White Lightning lube and took my chain tube off, but still got a little grease on the pant leg, so I put the chain tube back on. A 1/2" plastic electric conduit should work just as well.

I don't have one but am thinking of it, why did you take it off? Some say it is noisy and can snag the chain. Should I bother? I just do some casual gravel and road riding for exercise. I have a practically brand new 02 CT. Thanks in advance. Russ

I took mine off because I felt it was unessessary. You will still need to tuck your pants leg or it will get caught in the chain wheel. Was used to tucking into a sock anyway so no big deal. I'm sure there was also a tiny amount of drag associated with the tube.

You might keep your eye on e-bay, I've seen one or two. Some 1/2" CPVC tubing would probably work also -

I never had a problem with the chain on my 2002CT but I did wear tracksuit trousers which would not be that baggy. It's a good idea to either tuck you trousers into your socks or, if they are still available, try cycle clips (plastic coated sprung metal)
Regards,
Robin.
